Lastly, the parents are so much fun in Donnie Darko. Holmes Osborne is hilarious as the absent minded father. His sincerity is astounding and endearing.
Likewise, the very real suburban motherly portrayal from Mary McDonnell is excellent. She is tender with Donnie, while feeling cold to the spiteful neighbors and other parents.
She gives a splendid performance as a mother tired of conservative parents and disturbed children, but nurturing with the most genuine care a mother could give.
Overall, not all the ideas work in Donnie Darko. The finale is shocking and impressive, while also not making much sense other than thematically.
The mechanics of the time travel is neither here nor there, but it is still entertaining. The special effects look dated, but also sometimes remain remarkable on their own merits.
The bunny outfit is horrifying much like Donnie Darko as a whole. I think despite any flaws Donnie Darko has as a film, many of the scenes and sequences within this film have remained with me forever.
Donnie Darko is a striking feature of great ambition and experimental tendencies that appeal to the most forbidden desires. Donnie Darko may well be a masterpiece if not for a few awkward moments of timing and pacing.
I was actually suspicious of buying this cause there were no pictures of this being a steelbook. But after it arrived, fast and safe, I was happy to see it actually was a steelbook.
And I gotta say it is very beautiful steel book. I was hoping to show off the reflecting parts of the cover in the last picture, which makes it look creepy when the light hits it right.

It is about time that someone did justice to this excellent, thought-provoking piece of art commited to film. The box set is very well made and sturdy in construction, the new artwork is wonderful and could not be better in my opinion.
The Blu-ray transfer itself has very slight grain and softness to it, but I find that it works well with the overall tone of the film being set in the 80's.
I have not watched the bonus features yet, but I expect they will not be disappointing. The only small gripe I have is that the book included basically re-hashes much of "The Donnie Darko Book", which I already own.
But I will still give 5 stars as the film is one of the best ever and it finally got some recognition. Well done Arrow. Donne Darko, what can I say?

Not recommended! This is such a treat. A true jewel. That is personal taste off course. Glad both exist. Arrow Video has done a sublime job again on the packaging and artwork.
The booklet is also what this limited edition stands out to the regular one however seen i am such a fan of the movie i bought both. The story is so mysterious that you can watch the movie over and over again.
It never gets boring. Each time you watch it you can enjoy it again. Cellar Door. Indeed one of the most beautiful word combination ever made.
So simple and yet so beautiful and thanks to this movie i know that. Jake is pure genius - he shows already his great acting talent in this movie.

An iconic film, something that will require multiple viewings to be able to see every layer of the story. The lead actor is perfect for the role, showing dissolution and disdain for his world.
The story itself is layered in gorgeous visuals, and an unnerving bunny shaped visitor which leaves you questioning its purpose until the end.
The cinematography and music go hand in hand to provide an experience that will stay with you for years. And this Blu Ray 4k master just makes it more visceral.

I did not see an unboxing video before buying and I was blown away when I received the box. The artwork done throughout by Candice Tripp is awesome.
The driver is Elizabeth's boyfriend, Frank Anderson, wearing the same rabbit costume from Donnie's visions. A second Frank can also be seen standing in the bushes in the same scene.
Donnie shoots him in the eye with his father's gun, and walks home carrying Gretchen's body. Donnie returns home as a vortex forms over his house.
He takes one of his parents' cars, loads Gretchen's body into it, and drives to a nearby ridge that overlooks town.
There, he watches as the plane carrying Rose and the dance troupe home from Los Angeles gets caught in the vortex's wake, which rips off and catches one of its engines.
Events of the previous 28 days rewind. Donnie wakes up in his bedroom, recognizes the date is October 2, and laughs as the jet engine falls into his bedroom, crushing him.
Around town, those whose lives Donnie would have touched wake up from troubled dreams. Gretchen, who in this timeline had never met Donnie, bikes by the Darko home the next morning and learns of his death.
