The story if it can be called such follows a cyborg named Henry who awakens to his wife being abducted by a mysterious telekinetic crime boss, but he manages to escape capture and must go on the run; getting help from a techy named Jimmy who gives him tasks to complete that will help him survive.
However, either through poor writing or directing, it's really hard to follow what's going on and incredibly disorienting.
Still, Sharlto Copley and Haley Bennett manage to deliver fairly good performances and the fight scenes are incredibly intense and exciting; at least for a while, until it all becomes a much of noise.

Kdo ji ale unesl? Ilya Naishuller. Consigli per la visione di bambini e ragazzi: V. In Italia al Box Office Hardcore! Per chiunque abbia vissuto un'esperienza videoludica action dagli anni Novanta in avanti suona tutto piuttosto familiare: sostanzialmente Hardcore!
In particolare l'estetica di quest'ultimo, militaresca e condita di uno humour greve come la truculenza della carneficina in atto, sembra aver influenzato Ilya Naishuller, almeno quanto Smack My Bitch Up , videoclip dei Prodigy girato da Jonas Akerlund con la medesima tecnica e il medesimo eccesso nel ricorso a sesso e violenza.
Cinema clonato, proprio come i molteplici volti di Jimmy - l'ottimo Sharlto Copley, unica nota positiva del film - o come gli stuntman senza volto utilizzati e replicati a dismisura per interpretare tanto Henry che le sue vittime.
Henry si sveglia sul tavolo di un laboratorio, senza memoria, ma accudito dalla bellissima moglie, che gli riattacca un braccio e una gamba.
Le spiegazioni avverranno dopo. La donna dalla voce amorevole sta per riavviargli anche la parola, ma il laboratorio viene attaccato da furiosi killer.
Naishuller scrive e dirige una storia girata interamente con GoPro Hero 3, che deriva da un suo video dei Biting Elbows, "Bad Motherfucker", mettendo in scena un protagonista senza volto, di cui per tutto il film vedremo solo le mani, come nei videogiochi d'azione stile Doom.
Sorretto da una trama fiacca, il film risulta eccessivamente cruento, [ E' stato un po' come tentare di far muovere un automobile con solo il volante, il sedile ed il motore a disposizione, ma senza avere le ruote, l'accelleratore, il cambio eccetera.
Tanta strada non la fai. Il film doveva consistere, in sostanza, in un videogioco [ Purtroppo sono tornato a casa decisamente deluso.
Il risultato sono 96 minuti di immagini traballanti e in alcuni casi confuse, [ Salta immediatamente agli occhi, purtroppo, nel parlare di questo film, un approccio che risulta essere completamente sbagliato.
Ecco: prendete Hardcore! Oppure a quelli cresciuti con videogiochi e joystick. La storia? Quale storia? Che ve ne cale della storia?
La faccia portata via da una fucilata. Ma di quelle ne trovi in abbondanza ormai su Best Gore. Ma come si fa anche solo a citare Arancia meccanica per stabilire dei paragoni?

It is a lot of fun for fans of science fiction action thrillers, with a nice performance by Copley. Cate Marquis. Hardcore Henry is one of those rare films that almost makes so little sense that it makes perfect sense.
